MORE ABOUT ACADEMICS, ARTS & ADVENTURES Academics Campers will work in a personalized learning environment while focusing on skills for the next grade level and reinforcing what they have learned the previous school year. Campers will participate in learning games, engage in fun educational experiences, and work through remedial and enrichment grade-specific worksheets. All materials are aligned with the Ontario school learning objectives.
Upon completion of the program, our students will feel more motivated and confident about the upcoming school year. Research into summer learning shows that students can lose up to 30% of their academic skills over the summer break. This means that in the fall students are actually further behind than when they left school at the beginning of summer.
Maintaining academic momentum over the summer prevents this backward learning slide, helps students remember the material they spent the school year learning, and keeps their brains in active learning mode so that they are ready to learn from the first day of school!
Arts Campers will learn about art history and world famous artists. This will help them expand their knowledge about art and understand why art is important.
During the program, students will learn various art techniques and create their own art based on what they have learned. They will work on individual projects such as portraits, self-portraits, nature and objects, and they will also work on group projects such as building castles, animals, and ships. Students will also learn about visual design elements and principles such as color, line, shape, texture, space, and form, and apply them in their work during the program.
Adventures Campers will engage in DAILY supervised walks on Main Street Unionville and participate in simple supervised team games in the surrounding parks and play areas. Fridays are dedicated to fun (full- or half-day) adventure field trips! All outdoor activities are weather permitting. More details about adventure activities will be provided on our website.
